Links between Alcohol Availability, Aggression and Urban Violence

This section features work that has been carried out on the links between the availability of alcohol and aggression and violence in the context of the night time economy. The ‘availability’ of alcohol in this context can refer to the retail price of alcoholic beverages, the number of licensed premises in a given urban area, as well the hours of sale of these outlets. These general features are examined in relation to violence, as are environmental factors within licensed premises, that is, the design and configuration of bars and pubs; there is also a gender specific element that is included in some work.

The section also includes references to work that has been carried out in the settings of Accident and Emergency Department.
