Three varieties of alcoholic iced lollies are due to be launched this summer. Spiked Ice (produced by Thornlodge), which looks like an ice pop, is made from vodka and raspberry with a strength of 5.5 per cent. Distributors claim that the iced lollies would not attract youngsters as they would only be sold in clubs to adults.
Frappe (produced by Split Drinks Company) is a flavoured frozen liquor sold in a carton with a 4.5 per cent alcohol content. It will cost £1.50 and will be available in pubs, clubs and restaurants from July.
Tony's Freezer Cocktail is a sachet to be bought in off licences and frozen at home and eaten like a lolly.
Donald Anderson, Labour MP for Swansea East said: "This is clearly the latest insidious example of the drinks industry trying to hook the young market. Lollipops are even more of a childhood thing than soft drinks. The industry clearly cannot be trusted to regulate itself".
