Upward trend in number of premises licences continues

The number of premises and personal licences is up on last year, according to new Home Office data.

Headline figures from ‘Alcohol and late night refreshment licensing data for England and Wales‘ showed that in the year to 31 March 2014, there were in force:

  • 204,300 premises licences, 0.1% (300) more than the previous year and 3% up on 2009
  • 581,000 personal licences, 6% (33,700) more than the previous year and 48% up on 2009
  • 8,200 24-hr alcohol licences held in 2014, a 2% decrease compared with 2013, but 8% up on 2009 (representing 4% of all premises licences)
